Finding the Right Mother’s Day Gift: 3 Tips for Choosing Something She’ll Treasure
It’s finally that time of the year when we celebrate the life of the greatest and selfless humans on this earth, Mother’s Day! Although frankly speaking, I’m a believer in making an effort by doing simple things every day to make the mamas feel appreciated, I realize that not everyone has the luxury of being together with their mamas to actually get this feat accomplished. And if you’re like me who’s racking brains on what to give, here are my three tips to get your creative juice cracking.
1. Figure Out Your Mama’s Love Language
If you’re not familiar with love languages, I highly recommend reading Gary Chapman’s book of the Five Love Languages. This is for you to really make your mama feel all loved up and not wasting time on filling that love bank of hers. Because sometimes, it may not necessarily be a physical/material gift that would make her feel happy, but perhaps spending quality time together on a meal, or offering a full day of acts of service such as cooking her favorite meal or fixing that leaky faucet. Or level things up by doing something to fill in all of the different love languages because why not?
2. Just Ask
Sometimes in life, we just need to simplify things and go straight to the point. Ask if they need anything or if they’ve been wanting to do some activity that they haven’t been able to do or go somewhere they haven’t been able to go yet. This may not be the grand celebration that you’ve been thinking of, but it’s the everyday simple stuff that tends to be pushed to the ‘later’ and eventually the ‘never’ column. And sometimes, just a mere volunteer or companion to do it is all the push we need for those ‘later’ things.
3. Pay Attention
Okay, this tip may not be the ‘fast ball solution’ you’re expecting, but it would pay you off dearly in the long run (like some sort of an annual exhaustive list of ideas for Mother’s Day). But simply tune in to your mother’s words. Listen to what she says in passing of perhaps a place she wants to go to. A restaurant she thinks might be good. Or if you’re daring enough, browse through her favourites or shopping cart. You might find all sorts of ideas there on what she would appreciate if you tune in and pay attention to what she likes.
So there you have it. My three simple tips for you to gather ideas on what gifts to give to your mom on this special day. But honestly, as a mom myself, sometimes it’s hard to figure out what I’d appreciate to receive from anyone. But more often than not, it’s the effort that always counts more than the actual gift itself. Advanced happy mother’s day to all your warrior parents out there! You deserve the best.
